CHARLES SMYTHE AT THE KING'S.
WEDNESDAY A’ THURSDAY.
Special atten-tion is drawn by the " management of the Kings Theatre to ' the announcement -that Charles Smythe, the eminent Australian basso, will appear at that theatre on Wednesday and Thursday next. This is the greatest and most expensive musiqal combination at present on tour in New Zealand. They have just completed a nine weeks’ run -at the King’s, in Wellington. Mr smythe is reported to have achieveda triumphal success in his interpretation of the part of Mephistopheles in "Faust? with the Dame Melba, Madame Calve and Alice Esty Grand Opera Comyaniesv. His versatility, however, is exemplified in a. most extensive repertoire ranging from numbers from Grand Opera to songs of the rollicking nautical type. Miss Stuarts? success in the latter has attracted the Maoris and interested them to such an extent that she Has been presented with a number of rare ’item‘s wh-ich she will render during the coming season. Miss finita Greene, a lyric‘ soprano with a cultured voice of uncommon sweetness, anti’ Miss Miriam Kutner, a talented young accompaniste, who also sings capfiira-“Ling clitties at the piano.
