Owners of steamers carrying Australian meat have protested to the Board of Trade against priority being given to steamers from River Plate discharging at London and Liverpool. The average time for discharging an Australian steamer is now six weeks, whereas Plate boats are discharging in ten ‘days.] There liave been several recent instances where Plate boats commenced discharging directly they arrived, while Australian boats waited
two months for berths. It is understood the Plate steamers 11a\'c'proforernce because their meat. is pl'iv*ltel_\' owned, and the owners are willing to pay much. higher prices for storugxo than the Board of Trade will pay for Government-owned meat. There is irritation against the I*e"rontion of control, which is maintaining high prices of meat, while enormous quantities are choking stores and delayin-g‘ steamers at. high oxpense_ I
