ALLAN WILKIE COMPANY.
‘ TI-IE MIDNIGHT WEDDING. ___,,.._.._ The revival of Walter Howard ’s famous romantic costume_ military drama, “The, Midnight Wedding,” is causing a deal of interest in the theatrical circles of Taihape.. There are many who, perhaps, ‘witnessed the original staging of this great Play in New Zealand about twelve years ago, when Mr Harcourt Beatfy and Madge Mclntosh toured with it, and appeared in the production. Since then there has not been a production of this famous play. In ‘the present resentation, which is announced to take place on Friday, 13th, by the Alllan Wilkie Company, there is much to commend, for in the acting the members of the cast‘ giye a splendid account of themselves. The work itself, moulded as it was by clever craftsmen, is not only full of vitality, but it contains many little touches of sympathetic observation, and the situations are extremely eifective. The quality which lures one to this delightfully romantic play a second and even a “third time, is the ingenuity with which the scenes have been arranged. They follow each other in such rapid succession that the interest of the pretty story is sustained from the fise of the curtain right up to the final curtain. ‘ ‘The Midnight Wedding” is of the same type as “The Prisoner of Zenda,” with gorge‘ously uniformed soldiers of the Green Hussars. Mr Allan Wilkie will make his apeparance to a Taihape audience as Paul Valman. sword master of the Green Hussars, and Miss -Frederyde Hunter Wells will be princess Astria. The costumes in this play are said to be very beautiful. The box plan is at Pratt’s booli shop.
