CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 5.

I A charge of abduction of a child 3was heard in the Magistra.te’s CO-urt [llO-day against. Annie Jane Bean. The complainant was George Vincent Bean, who obtain a divorce in 1916. The child was a girl under I 4 years of age, who had been kept in a. convent school; Complainant stated that defendant took the child from the convent, and went to Sydney, Where she was arrested, and she was brought back to New Zealand. The defence was that defendant telephoned to the convent authorities. informing them that she was taking the child aW.ay, but admit.ted she did not say she was taking her to Sydney. .

The Magistmte said defendant was ill~advised to take the child out of New Zealand, but no jury Wsllld convict on the evlE’{e’rice. The case was dismissed.
