AUCKLAND, Feb. 2. At the Supreme Court to-day, Michael McCann, alias Langley, was sentenced to six months’ hard labour, and declared a habitual crlminal. Daniel Minihon, for theft, was Sena tenced to three months’ imprisonment; and three years’ reformative rtreata ment. 5 THE POKENO CASE. . MRS PARSONAGE ACQUITTED. » AUCKLAND, this day. ‘ At the Supreme Court Constance Eli-4 zabeth 'P'arsonage,, charged with man-4 slaughter of‘her infant child, drowned in a creek at Pokeno, evidence showed that her house was destroyed by fi‘e,_ and a few days later the woman and! child were found in the creek, the? child being drowned. The woman’s mind was affected, probably by the fire,‘ and she did not realiére what she had done. The verdict returned was not: guilty, on the ground that the Woman! was insane at the time ‘the act was committed. She was acquitted, but ordered to remain in custody.
