Replying, yesterday, to a deputation of Wairara-pa farmers, Mr Massey said people loked far too much to the Government to do things for them. If a. man wanted a. pound of ‘sugar ne telegraphed to the Prime Minister ‘to know whether it couldn’t be sent him by post. It is much the same with petrol "find coal. The Government was becoming a trading concern. He did not think there need be any anxiety for some time regal-Hing coal, and as to sugar, the Refining Company's Works, at Auckland, were working night and day, A member of the deputation asked if Mr Massey thought hoai-‘(Ting was going on. Mr Massey replied, “I do. I can’t account for it in any other way.” The Auckland_ concern was turning out 1200: tons weekly. He hoped -the strike. in Fiji, which W 3-3 serious, would not affect fine sugar position. -
