The British Labour Party’s Commission to investigate the Irish situation, especially from the Sinn Fcin and trainsport workers. Le Journals Dublin correspondent states that he interviewed Viscount French, who €Xple¢SS9d his deetrmination to suppress disorder, even if martial law was necessary. He drew a -hopzeless pictu-re of lthe future. ?’lfl' seemed likely that a. period of peace would follow restoration or order, but it was probable that trouble would break out again later. A new crop of outrages is reported from Ireland.
A constable was seriously wounded last night at Thurles, which is in -the proclaimed area, and the centre of a most disaffected country, where "several police have‘ been killed. Three bullets ’ entered the constable’-s body. Military and armed police arrived an hour after the outrage. The inhabitants report that a. reign of terror followed, the soldiers firing volleys and smashing windows with the butts of rifles. There were wild scenes, lasting one and a-half hours, and it is estimated that damage to the extent of £SOOO was idone -to house propei"t'y. Citizens are indignant, but -the clergy are exercising a restraining influence. The district police inspector express~ed regret for the. occurrence. The ‘wounded constable was successfull-y ‘operated upon in, a Dublin hospital. Doctors called for volunteers for transfusion of blood. One hundred and fifty responded._ A constable was selected. There was great excitement in Dublin when it was learned that Commissioner Redmond was shot Outside the Siun Fein headquarters in Harcourt Street. Two shots were fired from the opposite side of the street. Commis~ sioner Redmond was found. with an automatic pistol in his hand. It is usurmised he drew the pistol after the first shot, which missed. The second penetrated his brain a.nd death was instantaneous. »
DEATH OF THE CONSTABLE. LONDON, Jan. 22. The constable who was wounded at Thurles is dead. WILFUL MURDER. I:‘oNDoN, Jan. 24. The jury at ‘tho Tllurle.< inquest returned a verdict of wilful murder, and strongly condemned the outl'z-ige. JURY’S ABHORRENCE OF DASTARDLY CRIME. LONDON, Jan. 22. In returning a verdict, a Dublin jury expressed abhorrence «at the dastardly outrage by unknown persons in wilfully murdering ‘Conlmi.-7.=-.ionm- Redmend. LABOUR DELEGATION AT CORK. LONDON, Jan. 22. Tho Labour delegation visited Cork The Lord Mayor welcoined the party and escorted fliom to the City Hall, wliere they found the police had again ejuciod the Sinn Fein Industrial Commission.
