4‘ LONDON, Ja. .1124. The British Military Mission to Russia reports on the 22nd the retreat of the eastern half of Deniken’s front continues. The Don army has withdrawn behind the S2ll. River, and strong forces of Reds c-I'-ossed the Don, but were thrown back, leaving a thousand prisoners. An attempt to cross the Rostov was repulsed. PO-LES AND BOLSHEVIKS MISTAKE BY DENIKIN BRUSILOFF COMMANDS RED ‘ Received 9.25 WARSAW, January 24. Bolshevik troops from Siberia are reinforcing their army on the Polish frontier, concentrating in the area which Denikin abandoned. Trotsky is apparently making ready for an attacks before the Spring thaw commences, planning to smash the Polish flank, but the Ukrainalins are suporting the Poles, and should stop their advance. Petl~ura will shortly ye-enter the field on the Polxisnh side. Brusiloff commands one of the Bolshevik armies. It is stated that his son, who was compelled to serve with the 801sheviks, fell into Denik‘in’s hands,and was shot as a traitor. Thereupon Brusiloff offered to serve Trotsky.
BRITAIN TO SUPPLY ARMS AND AMMUNITIONS. PARIS, Jan. 23. Foch reported to the Supreme Council timti he ‘estimated ‘that at least four European divisions would be necessary to onganise fhe Caucasus. The Council, after exaznination of the situation, recognised that England, with her }lcavy commitments in Ireland, Egypt and Mcsopoiffiiia, had absorbed all her volunteers-. It was decided that her intervention consist only of supplying arms «and ammunition. to the mountaineers of Georgia and sending several detachments of nlm'ines~ to Baku.
