VALUE OF LUCERNE.
That there is money in lucerne growing on vacant plots in Christchurch, which would otherwise remain unproductive, was illustl'ate.d by Mr A. MacPherson, Government Fields Instructor for the South Island, in conversation with a Christchurch Press reporter. On the Bth October last, he said, Mr C. J. Sloman had sown a crop of lucerne on an acre section near the hospital. The crop had now been cut, and had yielded 3.23 ton of ha)’, which at £l7 per -ton, its marget price in C‘}n-istchul'ch. would ‘produce :1 I'B‘ turn of £22 12/. The cos. -of planting was £1 10/.
