PRICE OF TOBACCO.
ANOTHISR INCREASE. Tobacco smokers will not be pleased to hear that another increase is pending in the retail price of cigarette tobacco On Monday retail tobacconists received word from the B'ritish Empil'O '[‘radi.ng Company that cigarettes had gone up 7s per thousand to all wholesale firms, and consequently \\_-'ould be increased ‘is 1061 per thousand to retail buyers, Likewise all plug and packet tobacco had been increased by Is 4:1 per lb to wholesale firms, who in turn had “to pass it on to the retailers to the extent of 1s 6d per lb. These increases will probably mean that well-known brands of cigarettes such as “Three Castles,” etc., will go up to 9d per packet of 10, and 2oz tins of pipe tobaccoup -to ls Gd. It is understood that the increrase in the price of) cigarettes will not affect‘ the locally amnufactur-ed~ cigarettes, namely, “Capstan,” which are at present being sold at 7«1,a packet of 10.
