LURE OF HOLIDAYS.

TOO MUCH FOR SOLDIERS. A rather unfortunate phase of the holidays is the number of returned soldiers who have failed -to return toWork. These men evidtently found the lure of :1 protracted holiday too much for them, and sacrificed their positions. This is the reason given by an oflicial of the Auckland Repatriation Department in respect "to figures submitted at a. (meeting of the'District Repatriation B-oard.

The report, compiled by the employment ot'fieers, shows that there are 64 men on the register seeking employment, this number including 48 app“cations received since the ofiice reopened ou January 6th. No doubt the men have found regular habits somewhat ‘irksome after their e‘:{periences of the past few yeal'§, particul‘arly since the great xnajority of them had Long spells before returning to Wol'k.

That this fault is not confined to the men is proved by the fact -that not. so long ago a big staff of young ladies in an Auckland establishment. where meals are served left their occupation in a body to participate in the joy people were deriving from the‘ holidays. The nranagcnlent were left in a quandry as to the best. means of carrying on, but after careful thoughf'and much exerfion fided over {he busy period.
