BOLSHEVIKS THREATEN INDIA.
SITUATION CAUSES ‘MUCH i CONCERN. ‘ ” , Received 8.55 a.m. . T ALLAHABAD, Jan. 10. . With «the entry‘ of Bolsheviks into Bokliara, the road to Afghaniston and [the Indian frontier is now" open. It ‘ is expected the Bolsheviks will shortly . establish communication with Persila. in ‘Central Asia. There are no settled governments, and ‘the’ population is I suflering from active economic distress. If they -are assisted by the Afghans, who are sullen under their recent defeat, the Bolsheviks could create a dangerous situation on the Indian frontiers. Present British -troops in India are untrained in frontier Warfare; officers are ignorant ‘of the conditions, old troops have been demobilised and sent to England. The present Amir of Afghanistan -aspires to the forma-A tion of -a Pan-Isl*am'l'c"' League. Discontent of Moslems against the Turkish peace terms is also great. With the help of the Bolshevik agitators a strong anti-British propaganda is being conducted ‘in Central Asia. Bolshev‘ikg hope to ;h|a.ve 50,000 troops in Tashkent -by the spring. Enver Pasha, who commandsflie rabble army in this area, is reported to have visited Tashkent and met 'B'olshevik commanders. Persia is still in a ista/fe ‘Of unrest and there is steady growth of the campaign against the ‘Anglo-Prus""'sT'an agreement. Disfurbment is taking place in North Persia, and communieafiion with Tiflis and Armenia are cut oif. South-Per sia, under British control, is quiet. The situatioii generally is arousing much speculation in India.
