NEW FRUIT DISEASE.
CONCERN FOR ORCI-I&RDTS’I‘S. TAURANGA, Jan. 8. What is considered a new disease which has made its appearance in local orchards is giving fruit—groWers some concern. .The .Deplartmental officials at Wellington, after ex’-ar_n_inin_g specimens think it might ‘be brown rot, and advise as to temporary treatment, but have made no definite pronouncement as an expert is not _at present la.v-ailable to make :a thorough investigation. Pear trees are principally aifected, in some orchards seriously. Apple trees are also attacked, especiElly at the Government horticultural station, and peaches slightly. Orchardists feel’ the matter demands 11-ompt attention by the*Government.
