SUGAR SHORTAGE.

SCHEME OP DISTRIBUTION. AUCKLAND, Jan. 4. The Prime Minister stated to-day that by arrangement with the head office of the Colonial Sugar Company an. officer has been appointed by the Board of Trade to work in conjunction with 'the company’s Auckland manager, in connection with the distribution of sugar as from tomorrow. The proposed allocation of sugar will be on a percentage gasis worked on an average, the arrangements covering the last three years. The distribution will be as follows: — (1) Household requirements. (2) Essential, industries. The officer appointed for the purpose will assume the responsibility for fair allocation of sugar available. Endeavour wall also be made to overcome the difficulties of distribution occasioned j by the uncertainty of coastal shipping. The Colonial Sugar Company anticipates being able to supply normal do-, mands from now onwards, provided j there is no interruption to shipping.
