PRESENTATION AT UTIKU.

A pleasing incident marked the close of the Utiku school concert‘, held on Friday: evening, when advantage was taken to bid good bye to Mr and Mrs P. G. Lewis, who are leaving Utiku for-.Rang.atua. Mr D. Jackson, chairman of the Utiku School’ Conlmi,t--tee, in a brief speech, expressed re-3 gret at Mr and Mrs Lewis’ »dex_3arturc, saying that they could not let.-. thcmi leave without recoggiising their services. Mr Lewis made an excellent he-admaster, and the state of the school grounds, now one of Utiku’s beauty spots, was due to Mr Lewis, and the‘ Inspector in his report said the school grounds were the ‘best. he had visited this year. Mr and Mrs'Lcwis had taken part in all social functions, and in this respect they would be much missed. On behalf of theischool children, Mr'J ackson presented Mr Lewis w'ith a pair of military hair brushes and -on behalf of the School Committee and public he handed Mr and Mrs Lewis a roll of notes. In doing so he wished them every‘success in the future. (Loud Applause.) Mr Lewis, in reply, said that both Mrs Lewis and himself would have been satisfied to have had the opportunity to bid their friends good-‘bye, but they were grateful for the gifts. He thanked the boys and girls, for itheir present and good wishes: They [were sorry to leave Utilira, and anything they had done "had been a pl.easure to do. ~Mr Lewis thanked the 'Committee for their help and con,sideration, and in conclusion thanked {those present for the gifts and good i Wishes. Th-ree ringing cheers were then given for Mr and Mrs,LeWis. Dancing F was then indulged in to music supplied .by Mes-flames Lewis and Hinton, and [Messrs Hueroa and Whenuaroa.
