TURANGARERE-OPAEA ROAD.

(To the Editor.) Sil',—ln your issue of November 27th, I saw a letter, in reply to “Neglected,” signed by P. Pederson. I am much obliged to-Mr Pederson for writing this letter as it gave me and ‘the general public information that we would otherwise have been ignorant of. In thereport of the Chamber of‘ Commerce meeting, to which I referred in my previous letter, Mr Mair was reported to have written that he did not see why--this road should receive special consideration, and that was all I had to go by as I was not at the Chi.-imber of Commerce meeting. It now appears ‘Hr Mair d-oes consider this road requires special attention, and he promised to: get the bad portions cbmpletcd during the present season. . Had I knotvn the contents of Ml‘ .Mair’s letter to the Secretary of the Taihape Chamber of Commerce I would, of course not have written in the terms of my last letter, but as the letter was not published prior to-my, writing, the general public and myself had no opportunity of knowing what it contained.

Mr Pederson seems to think I was making a direct attack on Mr Mair, as a private individual, which is, of course, absurd, as I only referred to him as the Engineer of the Rangitikei Council and it was I the Council as a Whole, of which Mll Pederson is a member, that I was getting at through their Engineer, and not the Engineer himself, as 9. privklte indivi» dual.

I.am sorry if I hurt Mr Mair ’s feelings, but I cannot say I am sorry I wrote the letter, as it has caused a. good deal of useful information to be published that ‘we might not have got otherwise; and We now ‘have the assurance of Mr Mair and Mr Pederso-n' that the bad portions of the Turanga» rere Opeae road are to be completed this season," and the whole road 'eom_pleted within two years-. If this is carried out I shall be no longer NEGLECTED.
