An unusual experience bcfol passengers on the through train from Wellington to Auckland yesterday As the train, drawn by two powerful engines was negotiating the big hill in the vicinity of Ngaio, and when about three parts of the way up, the chain coupling hooks connecting the engine to the 'carriages straightened out, and the engine severed connection with the coaches, travelling some distance before they were brought up. Fortunately, the Westinghouse brake held the detached carriages. On arriving at Palmerston the hooks were replaced.
