During the thunderstorm in the Ashburton district recently, a thunderbolt. struck £1 stack on Mr R. S. Sim "s f.a»rm_. Carfew (says the Christchurch Press). At first there was a cloud of dust, which was followed by flames, which quickly spread all over the stack, making -it impossible to save zany portion. The falling of the bolt was fo'l'lowed by a loud report as of an explosion. The storm at Carew was preceded ‘by a hailstorm, the stones of virh'icll were 1311 exceptional size.
