I The eGneral Assembly today con'sidered at length the case of the Rev. §Murray, of Auckland, who was baptisled by immersion, and who had deficlined to baptise infants. ' DrVGibD presented the _cOnnnitteC’s report: “'l‘ha_t_’ the ’Asse‘:libly, having ycarefully considered the 're_i"erence }from the Presbytery of Auckland ianwent the Rev. ‘A. A. Murray, finds: ,(1) That it is desirable to re-‘clfl"ll“m' the historical position of this ehurcli in reference to the following‘ points: (a) That. baptism ‘by sprinkling valid; (b) that infant childrer.- of those who profess their faith in (‘hi-ist are rightful subjects of baptism; (0') That the sacrament of baptism can be received only once; that the action of the Rev. Murray in being immersed after having been baptised by sprinkling in accordance with the ordinance of this church, and his refusal to administer baptism to inlfents. are irregular-, and render him liable to discipline; (3) Mr Murray’s request to be perniitted to innnersc persons’ al-; ready baptised cannot, be igranted (4-_) That this finding be conveyed to the} Presbytery of Auckland, to St. And! rewfs congregation, and to Mr Murray. An amendment that Mr Murray be! asked to send in his resignation, andi another that he be given liberty were ‘ ‘pl‘OpOSCd_, but after a long discussion‘ the cominittes’ report was adopted,3 receiving 131 votes, the amendment calling for resignation 44, and the; other amendment 7. 3
