The busincss’centro of Taihapc is shortly to be vastly improv-:-d by the erection of a large, mode:-:1, splendidly designed block of business cauldings in Tui Street, by Mr H. D. Bennett. The ground floor comprises three large notably colnmodious shops, having immense singlesheet plate glass windows, while on the upper floor there are to be eight large, well-ventilated oflices and a very wide corridor extending the whole lengtlrof the building, both upper and lower floors being amply provided with lavatories and all modern conveniences. The front elevation plan discloses a‘ remarkably well-designed front, artistic, pleasing and constituting in the whole a decided ornament to the town While being substantial in appearance it is distinctly «decorative, yet there~is' no straining after effect. The plans are by Mr J. M. Dawson, Architct, Wellington, who is now completing the specification. .The Whole is to be ‘built in brick, with usual reliefs, the whole front -has 3 cantilever verandah, assitcd by susipenders, there hing no supports fTOm ithe street in the form of posts. when lcompleted the structure will indeed be ‘something for other property-OWDGTS ‘to emulate.
