Smith, the Liberal candidate for Waimarino, addressed a large and representative meeting of electors lat Ohakune, and met with a most enthusiastic reception. The Mayor, Mr G. Goldfinch. presided. Mr Smith traversed -the policy of the National Government, which he supported in "the main. He announced himself as a supporter of Sir Joseph Ward and the Liberal. Party and pl'atfol'm._ Although Smith spoke for a. considerable time, he was listened to throughout with the greatest attention, the whole speech being frequently punctuated with applause. A novclvfeatu:-e of the meeting was that a lady supporter of the candidate proposing /the usual vote at the close of the address, in "terse and convincing language. Mrs P. J. Dunne moved -a. vote of thanks to the speaker for‘ his able ‘address. and of confidence ‘in him for the splendid work he had done as their representative in Parliament. "The motion was seconded by a returned soldier, and was carried amidst great enthusiasm. Mr Smith addressed meetings at several .<ul-rounding centres, being notably well received at al-1 places.
