DEFENCE OF THE EMPIRE.
PROPOSED IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF, _ LONDON, Nov. 14. The‘ «army committee of the House of Commons memo-rialised the Premier urging the organisation of an Imperial general staff, :ip'a.rt from the War Ofl‘ice, with a central body in ‘London, and branches in Vr2l‘iollS parts of the Empire. The Commilftee points out tha.t.the Imperial Conference of 1907 apprived :1 Certral body for Imperi'3.l defence with branches overseas. The committee considers the General Staff should be removed from the War Ofiice in order to free it from admin-’ istr-ative d'e"rails, anti [also thaltf the eentl*3.l body should advise the Imperial Council on land“, sea, and air det'encc, and guide local branches on general principles, leaving to branches the local application thereof.
