MEMORIALS
l (To th Ee:3i';or.') ! Sir,—-At the preesnt time. m€mol"3alS ‘to the brave dead are exercising‘ the‘ minds of a good many of us. Some ‘think grand stands, others drinking fountains, yet others a mother’s rest, rall very good and useful in their wayißut Why not let us have something, ‘that will last for all time. Personally’ II want a memorial which appeals to my imagination, where I can stand silent and bare-headed, and tell the spirits of the brave dead lads that I have not forgotten and never will forget the sacrifice; they have made. I Want to see :1 simple cenotaph like Sir Edward Luyten’S in White—hall, which has captured all London by its lstriking simplicity and duty Something that willremind us and the generations coming after of the glorious dead. In years to come it should become our sanctum sanctorum——a place Where we all can gather once :1 year and insilence avow our eternal gratitude. Taihape ought to realise that true life of a town does not consist in bricks and motar alone.-—‘l am, etc., ' E. PRATT.
