At: Upper Tutaenui, Mai-ton, on Thursday evening Mr”Meldrum received a splendid hearing from a most attentive» audience ..of . electors. Mr W, S. Hawkins presided and introduced the speaker wh‘o"gave’ his addre-ss.on the lines ofprevious ones. He gave a good outline’ of our duties as a country to the nation, mentioning the need of a strong Navy to protect. our interests at‘ all times. He favouted State-owned coal mines, shipping services and bank, Government experimental farms to encourage the youngergeneration to take up ‘farming pursu ts and dealing with the lzubolu- qucsfiotl advocated equal pay for equal ‘Work. He condemned strikes and those persons who advocate the_“,<;o—slow‘-' policy in all branches of industry. The ‘teaching profession has a warm. advocate in the General, fvho eons:d~°.-rs that the profession should’ be made more attractive to encourage the best to take it up. Agriculture study should receive much _mor_e_ _g_;nc:uragement than at present. ._ Mr Mel-drum appealed to the electors to put aside all party and selfish feelings and pull together for the "uplifting of life in the country and the betterment of all classes concerned. This evening Mr Meldrum addresses the electors ‘at Marton Junction school-honse. :
