The Letts now hold the left bank of the Dvina, and the Germans are hurriedly retreating towards‘ Mifiau, abandoning great booty, including heavy guns. The Lettish prusuit is vigorous, and it is hoped to intercept the German retreat. A captured army order signed by -the commander of the Iron Legion, declared the Germans in Courland were fighting for Germany, who intended to sweep away the Versailles Treaty as far as the east was concerned. A German wireless admits heavy Polish successes in the municipal elections in Upper Silesia, the Poles obtaining sixty-four per cent. of the votes ‘in the Hindenburg district, 78 per cent. in Bucthen and Kattowitz, and 89 per cent. in Tarnowitz. '
