HEAVY ‘-LOSSES OF CATTLE.
The drought still continues, ‘and heavy losses of dairy cattle are beingreported, wro-to :1, corxesponiient from Lismore, New South Wales, on November 4. The rain of a Week ago was of no service to this district, but :1 few outside centres liad serviceable falls.
It is reported that 20,000 head of dairy cattle have been lost during the past seven weeks, and the question isbeing asked how In.any more will die before the Govefiiment sends fodder. A mass meeting "of fill'mCl'S was held on Saturday to discuss the situation. It was stated that , the deputation which interviewed the Minister two weeks ago considGl'od that faith had not been kept. A motion was carried that the Government be masked immediately to supply chaif, bran, and hay at half market rates. A committee was appointed to assist in the disfi‘ibution through th butter factories, of :1 consignment of 400 tonsof chaff sent by tlle Governnient to Lismore last -week. _
