The ‘bulk of the cases are of mild variety, but towards the end of last week a patient whose symptoms were identical with those seen during the late epidemic were notified to the. Auckland lofiice of the Department. Commenting 'upon this case, Dr. Monk, District 2 Health Officer, said the patient had an attack of mild influenza, and against the advice of relations and his doctor, got up and returned to his work. Within a few hours he presented all the 5 symptoms unfortunately so well known since November last, and he only just managed to esccapep the sad penalty : that befel so many last ‘year. “From lthis fact,” said Dr. Monk, “the gengeral public should not deceive them- ’ selves that influenza is no longer with us, but should continue to treat mild‘? ‘cases as they learned to do so during ‘last year’s epidemic.” 3 Dir. _Monk made it quite clear that‘ nothing had occurred to cause alarnig‘ the case he had mentioned being thel first for a long time to show symptoms 1 of the epidemic type, but it was advis-i able for the people to take extra care during November and December, when‘ sunshin.e tempfed peoyle to klfLsclard| Warm clothing although chill ybreezesl were often experienced. ‘
