U.S. PROFITEERS’ HOARDS.
In consequence of charges that the wholesale men were wffihholding large supplies of foodstuffs from -the market to keep up prices, the Mayor of New York ordered the Fire Department to make :1 fire inspection of every ware house or other "storage building in the city as a means of finding out what was in them. A repol“t- made now discloses immense quantities of food in various buildings, vinspecied. Included in the list are: 4'4,356,0001b of colfee, 15,700,0001 b of fresh meat, 557,383,000 eggs, more than 5,000,000 lb of fish, 100,000 cases of condensed milk. The information has been sent to the State autllorities with a View to prosecutions.
