. ‘DR. GI-L‘RU'P«H’S POSITION. \ NOT INTERESTED IN. VESTEYTS. “ MELBOURNE, Oct. 23. , In the House of Representatives the Minister for Home Affairs_, Mr M. Glynn, replyingto questions regarding the Darwin episode, said that Dr. Gilruth asked for eleven ’nronths’ holiday. He was granted six, and was still drawing salary and house allowance as Administrator. He was now in England where he ws doing certain work for the Customs .Department. In reply to Senator Ferr-iek’s ‘statement in the Senate yesterday, that the trouble ‘had been caused by the general belief that Dr. Grilruth, the former Administrator, was interested in Vestey Brothers, the Elritish cold storage firm, and that Mr Carey and other oflicials appointed on Dr. Gilruth’s advice, were equally interested. Mr Armid, solicitor for Vestey Brothers, stated that the suggestion that Dr. Gilruth or any other Governntent official in the Northern Territory is, or was interested in the firm of Vestey Brothers, or the North Australian Meat Company was incorrect. He also denied the inferences that Vestey Brothers were connected withthe American Meat Trust. Ve_steys was wholly Brit.ish,y and was not connected with any trust or combine.
