BUTTER EQUALISATION.
STATE COMPENSAION. GOVERNMENT ’S DECISION. SUM OF £170,000 INVOLVED. ' ‘ VVELLING-TON, Oct. 23. The intention of the ‘Government to compensate butter producers for the difierence in the’ price of butter sold for Jocal consumption, and that exported was announced in the ‘House of Representatives, this afternoon by the Prime Minister.
Mr Massey said the butter producei-s~ had received less than any other class of producers, and the Government, after taking the matter into consideration, had decided that the difi'erenee should be made up. Sir Joseph Ward, Leadei ,of the. Opposition, said he was very glad to hear that this course, which he regarded as" the right one, had been taken. The announcement was received with expressions of approval from all sides of the House. Mr G.
