} VISIT T 0 FANNING ISLAND. I MAROONED MEN RESCUED ON ‘CHRISTMAS ISLAND. A AUCKLAND, Oct. 21. i A private cablegram received by the l“Herald” from Fanning Island reads as follows“: The New Zealand arrived via Samoa and Christmas Island on the 20th, and remained six hours. Lord ‘and Lady Jellicoe and staff were in‘terested spectators of a tennis match ;against the cable. staff, Fanning winning by 26 games to 1.2. The staff were entertained at lunch on boa'cd_ Two white men and a. native were picked up by the New Zealan(l on Christmas Island. They had been eighteen months without outside communication and had been living on fish and cocoanuts. They did not know tho war was over. A white man met the landing party with a revolver. He thought they were Germans. The New Zoa.l'A.nd left for Honolulu at 2 p.m_
