USE OF FROZEN MEAT.
INCREASING IN POPULARITY. - CHRISTGHU-R-CH, Oct. 17. The high price to which live stock has ,risen at the Addington stock mar~ ket recently has moved most Of the Cmistehnreh city and suburban bufchers to take advantage of the re§ulations which permit them to obfiin frozen meat from the freezing worlig at the Imperial prices. The prejudice which undoubtedly existed against the use :of frozen meat as an article of diet among New Zealanders is fast breaking amen. and Christchurch citizens are buying frozen meat freely, and, find that it‘ is very litfie, if any, noticeable -difierence~between fresh and chilled iueat when properly cooked and served. Complaints are \"made, however,.=’chat the butchers are charging more than‘ they should for the frozen meat, and one specific instance has been mentioned where a customer was charged at the rate of 10d per pound for a leg of mutton. As first quality wefher mutton can be produced ex store at rate of 5 3-8 d per lb. it seemed E though there W 35 justice in the com» plaint, . t ‘ Inquiries were therefore made from 1-epresen'-fative butchers on the matter. The result seems to indicate that the price was, sligEtly more tlmri reasonable, unlessflhere, Wei.-‘.eaSPoCisl‘l‘ °3l'—6lll_l,n-t 7 stances connected .Wi.th';the-' transacvtiong.
