THE A. AND P. WINTER SHOW.

A special -general mec=i‘ing of the Agi-icultur.al and Pastoral Association is to be held to-inorrow, in the Secretary’s office, at a quarter to two in the -afternoon, to confirm a r«eso~lution with respect‘ to the 110111111=21t.101l and election of coniniffteenicn at annual general meetings. "It will be remembered that considerable discussion took place at the annual meeting, held recently, on a proposal to abandon the Winter‘ Show,‘ and that finally the subject was left to the Executive to deal With. Hitherto, the Poultry Show has been ‘held under the auspices of the A. and P. Association, but, we understand, that arrangement can no longer continue; there is to be a cleavage, but, further, it is not found practicable to hold the‘ Winter Show and the Poultry Show, under different ‘auspices, in the same room, and on the same day, owing to inability to apportion the door tak~ ings, and tlle«arranging of expenses. It is not at all desirable, in the interests of the town, that the Winter Show should fall through just as miles of road are to be made that will tend to a great increase of exhibitors. The Tai-v hape poultry people will undoubtedly go. in for their annual exhibitions and competitions‘ but We are not sure that a continuance of the farin root show is not of far more value to farmers and the district as a whole, and in that case it would be an error to let it drop. We trust the A. and P. Executive will evolve some practical scheme for continuing the Show, by coming to some xrorkable understanding with poultry enthusiasts. It is not for poultrymen to decry th-e farm produce sh6w, or for farmers to regard lightly the poul~ try aspect; both have some value to the country_: both are essential indus~ tries, and it is from that point of View they should be regarded. It should be the concern of all to see that both are maintained, and are given that ‘encouragement they are entitled to. It is to be sincerely hoped that no. effort will be spared by either f:n‘nlC!'S or poultry enthusiasts to tide the Winter Show over until largely increased roading facilities permit many more farmers to become exhibitors,
