The Taihape Daily Times. AND WAIMARINO ADVOCATE

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1919. THE RUANUI RIDING LOAN.

With which its incorporated ‘ “The Taihape Post: and Waimarino News.”

iT.he R-uanui4Riding Loan for metalling -all the principle unmetalled roads -throughout the Riding was carried at yes‘t'erday’s poll by an overwhelming,‘ majority. Settlers in the loan area are to be congratulated on having so; decisively expressed the determination to lremove the old mud channel Way of travelling and replace it with up—to-date macadamiscd“highway transit. In fact the whole district, from Taihape out to beyond Rangiwaea and up to Coll'ier’s Junction will experience the pleasure of being able to ‘travel to» those extremes just when they please, instead of just when the condition of the mud channels per-mitted. _When the. metalling is com-_ ple't’ed travelling will increase by several_ ,h_undre_d_s per* cent, and, of course, that-means increased value of all the land 'ser.ved——_not_ a fictitious value, Abut.a_ real vpr_act'i_cal value. _ Set-, tlers will not have to timetheir -mo_ve~ m_en‘ts. to the weather to get to therail, way, and townspeople will find no diffi-. culty in getting in with supplies needed that are norv too -often inconveniently, and often with some loss, done without. There cannot be any very real progress without good roads, and at a time when it is essential that every shilling should be made out of the land possible to be made, there must. be the best means for getting to and from tthat land. In such alarge. and highly productive territory, it is matter for surprise that a comprehensive met'alling”‘§éheme- had not been adopted much earlier. Set‘tlers have n‘o’w.“llowever, determined that better conditions shall prevail, and they, no doubt, fully appreciate the excellent eifortg of .\Lr Mair, the County Engineer, who has certainly spared no pains in evolving the very best that all the circmnstances taken together permitted. Mr Pederson, member of the County Council for the Ru-anui Riding, has taken every opportunity to have farmers supplied with reading facilities in accordance with their needs, and the needs of the country. He has helped materially to throw open a. large district to the outer world, and to increase its production, and, as a. corollary, increase its value from every stalr'dpoin.t. We '_people in Taihape shoulcl not overlook the extension of business t.hesc'nliles of metalling, through some of the highest quality of land hereabout, will make possible. Buisin-essmcui ‘as sr>on'!rs permanent roads make it practicable, will no doubt. prospect this new field for business extension, which is indeed large and rich. The magnificent country out Colliers’ Junction way, also past Be]l’s, right on through Rangiwaea. is going to give the Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Show a big life forwarcl; it will furnish stock exhibitors for the Autum-n Show, as well as ‘competitors in the root classes at the Winter Show, and the great number of settlers will not have to delay their visits to town to purchase. what they require, because roads are impassable. -The settlers of the Run”-; nui Riding, at yost'crday’s poll,\gavei their district and the town a decided; fillip on that road leading to real progress, that is, greater production at‘ lesser cost. which means a real increase in value of that from which‘ production comes, and we sincerely con— i gratulate them on their determination. and trust that other (lis'tr'i’cts will goi find do likewise.
