MAIN TRUNK MISHAP.
COLLISION WITH A BULL. The Main Tflmk express train which left Auckland last Friday evening narrowly escaped disaster. As the twin was approaching the I distant, signal at Otornhanga, 29 miles ‘ south of Fl'ankton Junction, shortly be. fore 11 p.m., fhe engine (-msliecl into :1 bull which had strayed on to the line, min] was app.'u'ent]_v lying there asleep. The noise of the collision was heard by the clerk on duty at ()m-rolmuga station, about 300 yards away. The hull was carried 200 yards before The H-gain was carried to a standstill. It was then found that ihe wheels of the engine had just left the lines and that 30 sleepers had been -torn up. The bull had been drawn right under the first car. Some diifieulty was 'experi-‘ enced. in extricating its carcase.
