Nares as Geoifery Tempest, a_nd Cecil Humphreys in the difficult and exacting role of the Prince of Darkness in human guise, Prince Lucio Rimanez. Of the acting in this film too much cannot be said. Perfect representations of the characters are given and the staging is on a scale of great magnificence. There are good supports. TOWN’ HALL PICTURES. TO-NIGHT——‘ ‘ WHEN ‘A WOMAN LOVES.” Emmy, .a ‘waitress in a cheap restaurant, contributcs what she can to support her family at home, until the motherls ill-health brings the situation to a crisis. Having insufficient money for their need, Emmy is tempted to play with horse—l'acing_. at. wiiich, after losing, she dons male -attair, and entering the pool room is arrested in a raid. After a night in the station-house her id-entity is disclosed, and also her inability to pay the fine. A'‘ wealthy young attorney, Arthur "Lowe, on the scene at the ‘time, straightens matters out. Emmy, however, has lost her position, and in seeking, another at’ a beaué tiful'snmiil-er hotel, runs into‘ her ‘elder sister, who -some time before ‘she left home for the gayer life of the city, in company with two pseudo" geintlemen card—sharps, one of whom she ‘lives with. The other, Powers,‘ is “quick to realise that Emmy’ prettiness will prove -a wonderful decoy for their victims. One day Ruth, while canoeing with Powers is upset, and saved from a. watery grave by_ Lowe, whow-as heading his launch for the shore, after ‘which, recognising each other, their friendship increases, while Power’s hatred of Lowe grows rapid. At a card game with Lowe, Power is caught’ cheating by Ruth, who exposes him, whereupon a fight ensues between the two men, in which Powers, about to strike Lowe over the head with a decanter, is shot through the shoulder by Emmy.
