I.\’FORM.\'I‘ION WANTED FROM‘ SOLDIERS.
WELLINGTON, this day.
Vsince. the conclusion of the Gallipoli Campaign, the military authorities havebeen collecting -all a~va‘ilable informa. lion Concerning the burial of New Zealanders on the 1)CI)iIlSl1i,l. Aft iwt/l_l\e;_. ‘ armistice 2. special p-any fl-(Mn Cam iterbury Mounted Rifles visited Galli? POll for the purpose of loc.:tinglglrav'es,. and ensuring the perniancncc of identi. fication marks. Care was taken tolocate "Tll9 b11I'i?«l spots by exact mark-i. “133: and the taking of bearings, and. ‘9V9l'Ything Possible Was done to identify the individual graves. Th.e re~ Sult Of this visit was communicated; to éthe Inaperi-all Graves Commission, and to the New Zealand authorities. Now that all the oflicial data has been got together, it is evident that so far as the identification of individual graves is concerned, there is unfortunately 3,. big void to fill in the records. A cable was recently received from the New Zealaud Records Oflice in Egypt, st-atefl that many graves which have been loos»ted on Gallipoli are known to contain the bodies of New 'Z‘ea:landel's; but their names cannot be ascertained. It _ is believed that some of these graves. c-ould bo identified from information in. the possession of soldiers and next-of; kin in New Zealand. Consequently the ofiicer in charge of -Base Records, Wellington, is endeavouring to collect any facts or phdtographs which can be given ‘to him in New Zealand regarding‘ the burying places of individuals, as’ this will in many cases enable the grave ‘to! be definitely marked. N 0 matter how meagre, information of this. kind will be welcomed, and will beforwarded to the Graves Regisltra?tion Unit in Egypt for action to be taken. Next-of-kin who know where a soldier‘ relative has been buried should follow thesame course, as they will ?thus be i able, to afford -to many people in New. _Zc'aland.;=,th"e.. corisnlation. of knowing. that the grave of one who fell in thtat, camgaign ,V-will be appropriately .-macrked, and preserved for -all Itime as a. memorial of sacrifices made. _ . _.
