For the quarter ended March 31 this year, the total exports were in value £14,000,000, and of these primary products accounted for £13,(575,000. In the month of May alone, the e.\'pol't.~: totalled £6,715,000, and ‘for the period of January to May (inclusive) the figure was £25,767_.000_. being more than any full year previous "to the war. For the year ended June, 1919, the exports were,wool £].5,375,000, meat £4-.578;,000',, ia‘l’loW -£1,E31'3,000_. .butter £3,592,000, cheese £5,~501.000, ‘ sheep. ‘skins £1,937,000, ‘hides £707,000, hemp £1,059,000, timber £sl7,ooo,othel‘ experts £587,000, making a total of £39,069,000.
The expert trade, Mr Stri*ngol' also poinfed out. had been handicapped by the lacli of shipping. In 1914, ihe tounage available fOI"NCW Zealand was £14,117,000, and it had clxrindled down until in 1918 it was only £8,335,000. ‘Hr Stringer afso referred to the decrease in the‘ number of sheep reported last year. In. 1918 there were 26,538,000 head in the Dominion, in 1919 the number had decreased to 25,511.000.
