D'ANNUNZIO'S EXAMPLE BEING FOLLOWED.

Received 8.50 am.

‘LONDON, Sept. 25.

Imitating D’Amlunzio, other ‘ltalian leaders have planned to capture Spilla/to, Sebenico, and other A'driati'c ports.

The si*t«uation is grave.

PR ESI DENT WI LSON’S PROPOSALS

IBQFURIATES ITALIAN PEOPLE.

ITALIAN OFFICERS ‘SEIZE A e ' STEAMER. Received 10.10 am. JARIS, Sept. 25.It is understood Mr Wilson has ap—proved of the settlement of the Fiurne question as recently proposed by the Supreme Council, on the terms that Fiume be a free city under Italian suz-ei-ai‘n’ty, and the port and the FiumeLaibach railway to be internationalised under thelleague of Nations; also that Italy undertakes to construct no fortifications within a considerable distance of the town. The last provision has infuriated the Italians here, who declare it is too late for a. compromise. The feeling in Italy is such that the- only solution possible in the eyes of the Italian’ people is the nuconclitional annexation of. Fiume. Any Government attempting to compromise will be faced with a revolu~ tion. 0

An e.\;traordinary act of piracy is reported from Trieste. _ A’ band .of twenty Arditi volunteers, ofliccrs and men, who had grown tired of waiting. decided to ca‘fi‘ture the steamer Venzia carrying food to the Pola volunteers. At night time they boarded the vessel in small parties, and mixed freely with the sailors and fifty—four passenger's the following morning, but when the steamer was nearing Pola about noon the volunteers took up 'position;; at various gaiigwvays, while a group of of! fieers sprang on to the bridge and presenting revolvers, ordered the captain, who is a Croat to steer‘ for Fiume. The ‘crew were similarly surprised, while an officer entered the saloon and calmed the passengers. The steamer arrived at Fiume in the evening and was received 'with enthusiasm, D’Annunzio granting the volunteers special distinction.
