The Times’ Peking correspou«.lent: states that the situation in the Far East is complicated by ‘developments in Siberia, where large Czech forces are guarding the railway westward of Irku'tsk. WASHINGTON, Sept. 25. Giving evidence before the Congressional Investigation Conimittee of the Steel Trust strike, Mr Fitzpatrick, ‘the men’s representatives, said that Hie Steel Trust had raised large funds to prevent trade unionism establishirig itself in the industry. When the unions were formed, The Trust re'd_}uced the working hours and increased wages in an effort to forestall the labour organisation. Conditiions in the indusitry were atrocious.

Mr Sam Gompers, giving evidence before the Senatorial Intex-—State Commerce Committee, asserted that the United States Steel Corporation was guilty of serious crimes against the workers, who had no choice but to strike, since Mr Gary, chairman of the Steel Corporation would nut give them a hearing.
