“HAND’S UP!” A LAD’S ESCAPADE_ DUNEDIN, Sept. 13". At Balelutha to-day a, lad named McCdombe, 17 years, was charged with making a threatening ‘display with firearms -and using threatening Words with intent to alarm persons in a dwellinghouse. It mas alleged that the lad secured a. rifle, ‘anmiunition, and food at; Tewanui on Sunday, and after spending two nights in the bush went to the house of a settler named Wilson on Tuesday, after dinner. It was stated he went outside and ixninediately returned with a rifle, which he is alleged to have presented to the inmates with the words, “I-land’s up!” ‘Wilson secured possession of ‘the rifle, and after removing eleven cartridges from the magazine returned it ‘to the lad, who was arrested ‘later.
