SEVERAL CASES AT MASTERTON
MASTERTON, Sept. 19
To-day, in the Magistrate’g Court at Masterton, Mr Free, S.M., gave his de» cision in a charge against Joe Brown, a. Maori, concerned in :1. party which recently visited Taueru Hotel on a Sunday. Brown was fined £3 and costs. George Karitana, -another member of the joy party, was convicted and.‘ fined £3 and costs. John J. Oliver, licensee of the Tau—cru Hotel, upon a charge of supplying liquor to Maoris in a prohibited dis~ trict, was convicted and fined £2O. Upon a charg of “trc‘aT,lng,” being a breach of the War Regulations, Oliver was convicted and fined £lO. A further chargc against Oliver was that of selling liquor to a woman on 3. Sunday. On this charge defendant was convictedand sentence deferred until the police produced a record of Olive:-'5 previous convictions.
