Baron Patel'no, who murdered Countess Giulia Trigona, the lady-in-waiting to Queen Elena, in 1911, is reported to be dying in prison. Countess Trigona was :f:'ormcrly Princess do Cu‘to and ya. wonran of ,great beauty. After becoming estranged from her husband she became attached to Baron. Paterno. ' Queen Elena. endeavoured to break the attachment, and the baron and countess had la‘ farewell meeting prior to the liatter’s return ‘to her husband, but Paterno Cut hel' throat and tried to commit suicide "by 5h.0.0-ting himself. The baron recovered from his selfinfiieted injuries ‘and was sentenced in 1912 ‘to life imprisonment, the first ten years of which were ordered. to be passed in solitary confinement. It is a prison tradition that no man can survive more than [seven ‘years’ solitary confinement.
