NELSON'S LOG SAVED.
The log book of the Victory remains in the poéscssion of the nation. The precious manuscript has been bought for £SOOO by Mr James Buchanan in the auction rooms of Mcs~ sis Sotheby, Nvilkinson, and Hodge. At‘ the close of the sale Sir Montague Barlow, who acted as auctioneer, announced to a large ‘crowd of spectators that D.7[r,B‘ushanan had bought the log‘ in order that this relic of the bat‘ ‘tlc of Trafalgar should continue to belting to Great Britain. The announcement was reccivedwith prolonged ap-' Dlanuse The Vic_t.ory’s.log was writfell‘ on Nelson’s flagship by thte sailing master (or navigating lieutenant) oi the vessel. Thomas Atkinson, in Whose family it has remained until the recent death of Mr Atkinson’s last descendant. Mr 'Thomas Barratt, from Whf>Se _collection,it was sold. In addfifxcn to its historic interest, it is the carhest official account of the battle of T'3'fa]g.aT-,. being . written on the same 333’ as the, engagement took place. ' “
