THE VICTORY WAR LOAN.
l.n reply to several inquiries we wish to make it clear that the £10,000,000 Victory Loan has not the remotes: connection with any loan Parliamenf maybe discussing for Soldier Settlemcnt. The Victory War Loan is, as its title indicates, a loan made absolutely necessary for paying the costs of New Zcalandis prosecution of the war against Germany. By the glorious victory our soldiers so materially assisted to achieve actual war expenditure has ceased, but there are yet the final bills- to meet. After: they have been honourably disposed of war expenditure, is finished with. The ten millions that every man is nownsked to subscribe to in accordance with the Victory Loan Prospectus, appearing on page seven, is owing; it is a debt that must be liquidated whatever else happens. It is a liability that must be discharged; if it is not met by‘ voluntary subscription to the loan, than it must be met by compelling those '~.v‘;io have money to lend it to the State for that purpose, 4.-‘or it is evident that it cannot be taken from those who have no money A loan of this most notable dcscription——A Victory Loan——'should be doubly subscribed, at least, one would think so. In America, Britain and other British Dominions Victory Loans have been n10:,1 successfully floated, therefore, in New Zealand where so much boast is made that the country has not suffered like other countries as a result of the War. there should be a phenomenal response from that section who have been so markedly prosperous. Anyway, the Minister of Finance is confident that his appeal will be met in that splendid spirit that the occasion nlerits.lf is the last debt weowe for the grand finale to the greatest War in history, a war but for the bravery of our men who offered their lives might easily have ended in defeat of the AngloSnxon peoples. All who can are urged to contribute in ucoorclarice with their means to New Zeal-and’s Victo:-..’ Vvar Loan.
