FIRE BRIGADE BALL
. A GREAT SUCCESS. _ V This seasonhas been remarkable~ for the number of extremely suecess--ful balls and dances, and the Fire Bri-. gade ball held in the Town Hall last night must rank in the very front line. The Organisers of the function... both ladies and gentlemen, have for some weeks past been working very hard to make it a success, and that" ,it Was so brilliantly successful is a" ltribute to their enthusiasni and ability. ‘T111: hall was very artistically decorlatcd with flags and coloured drapings, ‘hanging in graceful festoons from, all sides of the building, while round {the walls were mirrors and framed pho’Cog'l'aphS of gcenes of interest to brigadesmen; In the centre of the floor was placed the musi-. cians’ stand, almost. hidden in >l. profusion of flags and bunting. At ‘the end of the stand, facing the en‘trance door, was grouped a. collection of the fire-fiighters appliances, ineluding hydrants, couplings, helmets, fire-axes, etc., enclosed in a— length of hose forming a shield. This was 3 very appropriate feature. At’ the entrance of the supper-room was a trellis of greenery. The stage was set apart as a drawing room, being very artistically' laid out, and was largely availed of as a‘ vantage point to View the throng of dancers below; The-at~ tendance of dancers was very? large, though not to such an extent as to tmake dancing too crowded‘ for comlfort. Great care had been taken to ?-have the floor in splendid order, and ‘it was a pleasure to dance on; The music was also a very prominent and enjoyable feature of the ball, being provided by Fireman Hartley's dance orchestra, and extras were played by Mrs Webb, Miss Trcadwell, and‘ Messrs Kennedy and Eric Smlth._ The Masters of Ceremonies, Captgj“n‘Reid, Lieut. Mortland and 'vf‘ii}Lanchmen Green and Pearce, were indefatigablein their efforts to cater for the enjoymcnt of evryone. The ball opened‘ at 8 o’cloclt with the grand March, which made an extremely pretty spe'£< tacle, as the ladies in their beautiful dresses passed to and fro beneath the ' canopy of flags and (Trapings; T 115»
5! pper-room was a. triumph of artistic £:oration, and reflects the greatest credit on the ladies who have so generously given of their time‘ to help the “men of the ladder and the -hose" in their efforts. 'Taihape ladies are noted for the generous profusionof their suppers, but last nights’ display of dainty and appctising comestibles has never been excelled at any public function in Taihape, and the ladies are to be warmly complimented on the successful results of their gratuitous labours. That the good things provid--ed were appreciated by the dancers was ‘self-evident during the course of the supper. Dancing was kept up until 2_3o.this morning, the general verdict being that a most enjoyable and merry evening had been spent. The local brigade rarely appeal for public assistance through a social function, and we are yery pleased to see that their efforts were so supremely successful. Vile congratulate the brigade and their generous lady helpers on the consummation of one of the most outstanding social functions of the season. V
