BRITAIN'S LABOUR PROBLEMS.
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE PENDPENDING. LONDON, Sept. 1. There will be an important Labour conference during the next few days., The Miners’? ‘Executive meels llo» morrovv. The principal subject will be the Government/s refusal to nationalise the mines. The Federation itself meets onvwednesday to receive the Executive’s recommendation. There is no considerable diversity of opinion ‘in the Federation as regards nationalisation. The crucial question will be the method of achieving «a. reversal of the Government’s policy. Advocates of direct action are at present somewhat discredited. A number of respensilile leaders with a strong following oppose direct ao’Cioll in any shape or form. Re. sponsibility may be transferred” to the Triple ‘Alliance conference on Thursday, at which nationalisation and direct action will ‘be the principal topics, but all decisions of the "miners or the Triple, Alliance are overclouded ‘by the immiuence of the annual trade union congress at Glasgow, on the Bth inst, -
