Almost daily our press ca.blegram.s refer to the serious posiiton that has been reached in the sterling dollar exchange. Already the result locally has been the request of certain importers, accustomed to deal largely with the United States, to cancel orders already gone forward, subject to rate of exchange ruling at time of shipment. The position is becoming more stringent in New Zealand already, although at the present ti_me little but hemp is going to America, but the import businss is large and varied. It is at the moment exceedingly difllcult to secure new business of this nature _while the exchange position is as it is.
