CHILDREN'S DANCE.
The ehildren’s dance at the Town Hall was wonderfully sTl'ceess,ful, quite 200 children taking place in the duneing. The variety of fancy costumes was almost bewildering, and almost every known character was represented. Punctually at 7.30 the grand inareh was formed, and as the juveniles went through the various evolutions, the effect was extreniely pretty, particularly when the mzirehers went between the rows of their fellows, who made a canopy with their uplifted -a.rms_ After the march was concluded the music sfrucl: ‘f_?_) a waltz, and it‘ was a treat to watch the bright and happy faces of the children as they circled round the round. One of the most original dances of the evening was a "polka, during the course of which at freqneiit int.erva.ls, the dancers stopped, and beat ltysthnl.ical.l\y; witthtllei'r feet and hands. At 10 o’clock the youngsters adjourned, in relays, to the supperroom, where they were regéiled with the splendid edibles so kindly provided by the ladies of Taihape, and the profusion of empty plates bore eloquent testimony to healtliiness of juvenile appetite.‘ _ After 10 o’clock the adults took the floor, and dancing was kept up until the early hours of this morning.
