WESTFIELD SALES.
Fat stock fook a sharp risa in valuo at the Westiiold sales on Wednesday Messrs Buckland and Sons:.Fat cattle were yarded" to the number of 241. There was a keener demand, with a sharp rise in. values. Choice ox sold up to'£3 8/ per 1001 b, prime from £3 3/ to £3 6/ 3 plain and rough from £2 5/ to £2 IS/, and cow and heifer from £2 5/ to £2 .18/. Steers ranged in price from £l2 ro £2B 15/, for bullocks

Gollan, Panmure, £22 16/8; sixteen from a Brady, Te Aroha, £22 13/3; thirty from Beath Bros., Waipukururu, £2l 18/11; sixteen from Joseph Slater, Pukekawa, £2O 19/4; eight from H. Sutherland, Matamata, £2O S/9; seventeen from H. E. Harding, Matamata, £l9 7/; nine from W. Gardiner, Walton, £18; eight from W. Johnston, Panmure, £l6 1/10; six from M. Cox, East Tamald, £ls 15/, and four from G. Hastie, Papatoetoe, £l9 10/. One cow from H. E. Harding, Matamata, realised £2O 5/, and ono from G. Hastie, £ls 7/6. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co.: Calves came forward in. full numbers; the bulk were fresh dropped. Good fat calves improved slightly over last week’s figures, others sold at late rates. The New Zealand Loan and M.A. Co.: Beef was penned in less than; average numbers. Competition was extra keen, and prices improved considerably. Choice ox sold to £3 8/ per hundred, prime from £3 2/ to £3 6/, rough and inferior from £2 18/ to £3 1/, and cow and heifer £2 17/ to £3 2/. The market was chieffy composed of light weights and poor quality. Steers sold at from £l4 10/ to £25 5/, and cows and heifers from £9 to £l7 10/ < Some of the averages for small steers were: Eight from Mr M. K. Taylor, Gordonton, £22; eight' from Mr E. T. Bain. Rangiriri, £2O 16/3; four ■from Mr M. Harding, Panmure, £2O 5/; seven from Mr E. Hall, jun., Wiri, £l7 8/6; and six from Mr M. Cox, West Tamakai. £ls 11/3.
Dalgoty and ■ Co.: There was *' medium yarding of beef, which* sold at! increased rates. Bullock beef realised , up to £3 10/ per 1001 b, while cow sold from £3 to £3 5/. A lino of particularly good cows from Opotiki sold at 'from £lB 10/ to £2O 7/6. | ADDINGTON MARKET. CHRISTCHUECH, Aug. 27. At the Addington market to-day yardings were smaller all round in tho beef and mutton sections, and there is little change to report in values. Batchers took most of the fat sheep offer-* ing, prices being a little easier. Beef was a trifle firmer. Store sheep: There was a small entry, of mixed description, inferior sorts predominating: 4,6, and S-tooth ewes 18/ to 13/7, 2-tooth wethers 30/, 4 an<| 6-tooth wethers 34/3, to 37/9, s.ni« wethers 33/. Fat Oa|ttle: The ,yardirig (totalled 235, and the quality was mixed, ranging from x)rime to indifferent. Competition for good stuff was keen, and prices should soon advance. Extra prime steers to £3S 10/, prime £2O to' i £25, .ordinary £8 17/6 to £l9 15/, extra' ! prime heifers to £23, prime £ls to £l9 10/. ordinary £S to 13, extra prime* cows to £25, prime £l2 10/ to £lB, 10/, ordinary £9 10/ to £l2. Fat sheep: There was a smaller yarding than *the previous week. The quality ranged from prime, well-finished ewes and wethers to indifferent. The sale opened well and remained steady. i Prices showed a slightly easier tendency. Extra prime wethers to 62/6, prime 45/ ro 56/3,, medium 39/ to 42/, lighter and unfinished 35/ to 38/, extra, prime/ to 60/, prime 43/ to 52/6, medium 36/ to 40/6, lighter 31/1 to 34/6, hoggest 28/6 to 34/6.
Store cattle. —The yarding was small and values were a little weaker. A line of 2 and 3-year-old lieifers brought £B. Other sales included a line of mixn ed sex yearlings £4 4/ to £4 17/6„ calves 36/-, cows from £4 3 7/6 to £7i 17/6. '<■ The supply of vealers was much ben ■low requirements, and prices advanced ;for anything fit to kill. RunneVk£s 4/, Ho £6, ffeod vealers £3 5/ to £4 9/, fain £2 5/ to £2 13/, small and inferior 11/\ to £2. There was a moderate entry of dairy cows of modium quality. The' demand was irregular. Cows £5 to. £l3! 5/, heifers £6 15/ to £ll. Fat pigs: Extra heavy baconers tflt£9. heavy £7 to £8 5/, medium £5 10/f to £6 10/ (equal to lOd to HHd per! lb), heavy porkers £3 10/ to £5, medium £3 5/ to £4 5/ (equal to 1/ per lb), choppers £6 to £l4. ■ ' . ■".
There was a big entry of store pigs, and a very fair demand. Best stores 50/ to 59/, medium 42/ to 49/, small 35/ to 40/, weaners 22/ to 29/, sows hi pig £5 to £7 17/6
